A dehydrator is a device used to remove moisture from various materials such as food and other chemicals. The equipment is a necessity in several industries as it helps to preserve products, extend shelf life, reduce weight and maintain quality.
This article aims to introduce a novel design of an industrial dehydrator that will enable the user to control both temperature and humidity simultaneously. In addition, the device will provide a frontend web interface that can be accessed by end-users using their mobile devices or PCs via Wi-Fi connected to the dehydrator’s hotspot. The users will be able to create different operation profiles, download historical operation data and monitor the progress of the drying process.
The design has been made by incorporating a Raspberry pi computer that provides the frontend web interface and supervises the PLC. The Raspberry pi communicates with the PLC using Modbus protocol and reads the commands to determine which action the dehydrator should execute. It also monitors the operation time and if it has reached the desired dehydration rate. In case it has not, the dehydrator will continue to dry the product until the desired level of dehydration is achieved. The device is a must-have for any home, commercial or industrial kitchen that wants to produce quality meat, vegetables and fruits for a healthy lifestyle. It is ideal for preserving fruits and vegetables, preparing delicious and nutritious snacks, as well as preventing mold and bacteria from forming in the food.
